Dr. Philip Walsh, the Associate Professor Ted Rogers School of Management Entrepreneurship and Strategy as well as the Yates School of Graduate Studies and Environmental Applied Science and Management at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.  Dr. Walsh shares his experiences and research in a 2-part series, about the progress of sustainability in the university/graduate schools and his background in the mining sector.   Dr. Walsh shares his experiences on sustainability metrics, ratings and organization’s incentive and drive to use them, GRI-G4 in particular.  Also, very unique challenges about implementing sustainability in a global environment, focusing on China, are also discussed.

Gretchen Digby, the Ingersoll Rand Manager of Sustainability and the Leader of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, describes the genesis and the journey of sustainability at IR. In a two-part series, Gretchen outlines the training provided to the business, operational and functional leadership, and to all employees.  Employee engagement is a targeted focus at IR, through Green Teams, and reaches to employees in all activities. Lastly, Gretchen shares a very detailed description of the rating collection and reporting process, such as DJSI, and how information is effectively and constructively used within IR to increase accelerate sustainability awareness and communications inside and outside of IR, and to drive targeted activities and continuous improvement within IR.
